EXECUTIVE, BUSINESS & LIFE COACH
“Being coached is about helping you to be the best you can be and therefore is relevant for everyone… Maria helped me to de-clutter both materially and metaphorically, freeing up space to think and perform.”
It’s time to let my clients explain about their coaching experiences.
“I had lunch with another accountant today. Our joint contact that suggested we got together had been singing my praises. At the end of the meeting he concurred with her opinion. Part way through the meeting he was amazed to hear that I have a coach. I have experienced similar responses from others (especially clients). Hopefully I portray an image of being confident (rather than arrogant) but the perception is that because I am confident I do not need a coach; no-one seems to think the reason I am confident is because I have a coach…
I still remember the conscious/competent discussion we had about learning to drive a car – I recounted it today. This part of coaching (for me) is you being able to put some structure around what I do and explaining it – it helps to confirm my actions.”

Coaching for Strategic Direction
“Planet Whale is our project, our vision, and it has big ambitions: to raise the standard for global whale watching and inspire millions of people across the world to connect with nature. We quickly realised that to turn such big ambitions into reality would require the very best people and we turned to Maria Banks. It’s one of the best moves we’ve ever made. With great insight, skill and passion, she immediately grasped the heart, soul and mighty purpose of our endeavour, enabling us to focus our talents wisely and put us firmly on the road to success. Now as one of our key mentors she continues to do so. Truly inspiring.”

Coaching for Strategic Direction
“The small team at Vanilla magazine undertook an exercise where we spent two full days, a month apart, with Maria. With her help and guidance we were able to focus on where we want to take the magazine, look at what was holding us back (including our own personalities) and give us the confidence to think big. We’ve made tracks already and are launching a Norfolk edition of Vanilla in the New Year so watch this space to see what other changes we’ll be making thanks to Maria’s support! The wonders of technology mean that support is easily accessible over the phone, email, Skype or good old fashioned face-to-face. And though we met in person, in between sessions we knew we could contact Maria if we ever needed.”

“If you want someone to help you to make powerful changes in your life then I believe that Maria has the skills you need. In her coaching with clients she’s been action-orientated, holding you to account to identify your true values and then giving you a solid foundation for realising your dreams and life plans. She is highly motivated to help you and in turn makes you feel highly motivated to seek out and take steps to get the life that you truly deserve. It’s reassuring to know that she has qualifications that count – Certified Professional Co-Active Coach from the coaches Training Institute and more – but just as reassuring to know that she draws on her own, very real, life experiences to nurture you.”

Overview: “Maria helped me to de-clutter both materially and metaphorically, freeing up space to think and perform. She enabled me to ditch an inappropriate giggle in some situations – remarkably easy habit to change once it was recognised. She even triggered some ideas on how to expand and run my consultancy business.”
Full testimonial:“When Maria offered coaching for Whalefest volunteers, I didn’t consider signing up initially.
The weeks since the meeting were incredibly busy for me – I work as an animal welfare consultant, equine behaviourist, and educationer. In addition I am a trustee of a charity, a co-founder of another and involved with a scarily large number of associations, groups and coalitions; I am doing an MPHIL and I have a toddler, two dogs, two horses, a tortoise and a husband.
Juggling all those things can be a challenge – every day is a real-life version of the logic puzzle about how to get a number of animals across a river that might eat each other – so I am very disciplined in how I get everything done and have various strategies to do so.
However, one particularly crazy day when I wasn’t getting much done – a symptom of which for me is re-writing a to-do list to include some quick wins such as ‘have lunch’! – I wondered how I could step up a gear in the way I worked, and it was then that remembered Maria’s offer for discounted coaching for the women of Whalefest.
In my previous life as a manager in science journalism, I had experienced being professionally coached and it had been beneficial,so I bit the bullet and contacted Maria. Coaching is often misunderstood or considered to be smirk-worthy and the result of narcissistic or self-obsessed tendencies – some people think that you must be severely lacking in something to need coaching. However, what types of people typically use coaches? – athletes, professional sportsmen and women! Being coached is about helping you to be the best you can be and therefore is relevant for everyone.
Over the next three months Maria provided fortnightly coaching sessions. Maria helped me to identify what is working for me already, and how to build on that further or transfer skills from one area of work/life to another.
She helped me to de-clutter both materially and metaphorically, freeing up space to think and perform. She enabled me to ditch an inappropriate giggle in some situations – remarkably easy habit to change once it was recognised. She even triggered some ideas on how to expand and run my consultancy business.
Although much of what we discussed was not new to me, consolidating, acknowledging and checking-in is a useful process to ensure that you are working at your best. Maria recognised my learning and communication styles and adapted her coaching style accordingly and now that the three months are over, I feel I have managed to ‘step up a gear’ and have things to work on.
I imagine I will return for more coaching next year and highly recommend both coaching itself and Maria as a coach – especially for the men and women of Whalefest as the whales need us all!”

“I’m still revelling in the beauty of the weekend – and wish we were still there playing, creating and laughing! What a wonderful experience and it was really a pleasure meeting and connecting with you all…The memories are there forever!”
